Downlisted from Endangered to Vulnerable in 2016 after decades of reserve expansion. Still not safe — bamboo is a specialist diet in a warming mountain range.
A flagship can pull a whole forest with it. Pandas are the argument for boring, expensive, long-term park funding.
Threats
- Habitat fragmentation
- Climate pressure on bamboo
What you can do
- Support habitat corridors, not just cub videos
Fragmented reserves still isolate breeding groups.
